Common use

Oxytrol contains oxybutynin and is used to treat treating bladder spasms, overactive bladder (frequent or urgent urination, increased nighttime urination, urine leakage). Oxytrol blocks acetylcholine which binds with receptors of bladder muscles causing their contraction.

Dosage and direction

Take 5 mg immediate-release tablets of Oxytrol 2-4 times a day. Starting dose for elderly patients is 2.5 mg. Take extended-release tablets once daily. Oxytrol tablets can be taken with or without food. Do not crush, chew or broke the tablet.


This medication may cause drowsiness, dizziness, or blurred vision. Oxytrol impairs ability to high concentration of attention. Carefulness is needed while driving or any hazardous activity which requires alertness and ability to see clearly. Avoid drinking of alcoholic beverages to avoid worsening of side effects. Side effects

The most frequent side effects which occur while using Oxytrol are: pruritus (itching), dry mouth, erythema (redness of the skin), vesicles (small bladderlike cavities), diarrhea, dysuria (painful urination).
